Sharing ideas and knowledge

When Mohamed fled from Sudan he had to leave everything behind; his home, his family, his job. Two years on, with refugee status in the UK, Mohamed is trying to build a new life.  When Jobcentre Plus sent him to Catalyst for Jobs and Skills (CJS) in Ealing, Mohamed found advisers who could help him with the daunting task of finding a way into the UK labour market.

As a first step into work, Mohamed needed to get work experience in the UK. He had worked in security in Sudan, so CJS arranged a three month placement for him as a security guard in a large charity shop on Uxbridge Road. Working three days a week, Mohamed has been a reliable, punctual and effective member of the charity shop team, and will certainly get a glowing reference from the shop manager. Alongside his work experience placement, Mohamed has attended CJS training courses and now has qualifications in Door Supervision and Customer Service.

With support from the CJS team, Mohamed is applying for security jobs, and is hopeful that he will soon find paid work.
